Help Ideas

Here are some straightforward ides which you may wish to use in your search for help:

  • If it is possible take your time in selecting a therapist.
  • If at all possible, visit more than one.
  • Make sure that they are accredited by one of the national organisations:

      the British Psychological Societygo to

the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapygo to

the British Association for Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapygo to

the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapygo to

  • Attempt to have some thorough conversation before making an appointment.
  • Compare your needs with what is on offer and check by accessing the National Institute for Clinical excellence. (see below)

It will also be useful if you are able to review how much counselling is helping you fairly often. Here are some of the ways which I offer for making reviews:

1.Redo initial questionnaires to see if they have changed
2.Rate problems now and compare with initial ratings or descriptions
3.Look through a checklist of things meant to be valuable or essential in counselling and therapy and adjudicate which has applied lately
4.Compare specific forms and see if there are commonalities
5.Anything which seems imaginative and allows us to test out the necessary elements like an individual item such as “ anxiety about ….. “
    6.Any combination of the above
7.One could include comments from others about how you’ve been
